What We Do

WEBS works to build a community of environmental stewards around the Netarts Bay watershed and the areas between Cape Meares and Cape Lookout. Each year, our volunteers contribute to over 35 community education programs and over 25 Tillamook County school field trips as well as several actionable stewardship programs.

Community Programs

Our community programs are open to the public and offered at no charge. Board members, volunteers and experts from the community develop the programs and make the presentations. Click on the Events Tabs to see our Community Events schedule. Many of our past programs are available in a digital format; click on the Virtual Programs Tab to view our program library.

School Programs

We work closely with the Tillamook School District's Natural Resources Program and other school districts and partners to offer students the opportunity for hands-on learning about natural resources. Each student participates in field trips, beginning in Kindergarten and on through high school. WEBS volunteers act as Science Coaches to support the teachers and work with the students as they collect real world research data.

Our School programs include:
● Netarts Bay for Preschoolers and Kindergarteners
● Kindergarten Hermit Crabs and Habitats
● First Grade Rocks, Sand and Fish
● First Grade Cape to Cape
● Second Grade Day at the Bay
● Third Grade Biomes
● Fourth Grade Coastal Geology and Energy
● Fifth Grade Anthropology and Shellfish
● Sixth Grade Alternative Energy

WEBS worked with several partners to install interpretive kiosk displays at popular waysides near Netarts Bay. We maintain these kiosks for the education of all that visit the Bay.

We believe strongly in the importance of keeping our beaches and streams clean of trash and marine debris and WEBS has supported SOLV and the Netarts- Oceanside Fire District from the very beginning with their bi-annual Beach Cleanups.

“My wife and I have attended Tom Horning's Geology of Netarts Bay talk and field trip twice. Each time it was fun, enjoyable and very educational. Tom really knows his stuff and is an entertaining and delightful speaker and guide. The Bay has a fascinating geologic history.”

“Tide pooling with Jim Young, Chrissy and the other volunteers is always a fun activity. There are so many fascinating critters to see. Learning about their interactions with other creatures and the environment is really eye opening. Each time out there is something new.”

Kathleen

“We have impressive experts participating in WEBS activities who generously share their expertise on so many levels. WEBS teaches and models stewardship to help ensure this area remains as beautiful and rich as it is, has been and can become for residents and visitors. WEBS has something for everyone no matter what your abilities, age, or interests. I especially love that now, if I can’t attend a program in person, I can access most programs online at my convenience.”
