SHAPING FUTURE SCIENTISTS

School Programs & Field Trips

Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS works closely with Tillamook School District #9’s Natural Resources Program to offer students the opportunity to discover the natural world by collecting real world data. The data they collect has been used to improve the environment and gain a better understanding of the region in which they live. Field trips and classroom curricula start in Kindergarten and continue through high school.

MEET BEL:

We’d like to introduce you to our new mascot, Bel the Belted Kingfisher. Bel is the bi-lingual spokesperson (spokes”bird”) for a video series aligned with WEBS-sponsored school programs. Come along with Bel and discover the bays, watersheds, estuaries, geology, and biomes of Netarts Bay and the surrounding area. While this resource is designed to help youth learn about this amazing place, they are great for learners of all ages.

Meet Bel in the videos below and let's EXPLORE, INVESTIGATE & LEARN together!

These programs started in the Tillamook School District in 2005 when Clair Thomas was hired by the district as the Natural Resources Coordinator. The intent was to engage students in hands on applicable learning with the natural world around them. Clair grew the program into a nationally recognized award winning program. In 2019, Amy Schmid was hired to take over the program when Clair decided it was time to "retire" and now serves in an advisory role to the program.
